What is an OZEV grant?
Government grants are available to encourage the connection of electric vehicle charging points by making a taxpayer contribution to the installation costs.
The administration of the grants scheme is undertaken by OZEV, the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.
Up until the 31st of March 2022, grants of up to £350 were available for all homeowners as well as businesses and workplaces.
From the 01st of April 2022 an OZEV Grant is no longer available to most owner -occupiers. So, if you own a house, or bungalow you are no longer eligible.
You can still claim a grant if you own or rent a flat or live in any other rental accommodation. The workplace scheme continues unaffected.
Who Can Receive an OZEV Grant?
Grant funding is still available, but the government has decided to target the funding away from homeowners and more towards the rental sector as well as charities, and car park owners. The aim of the revised schemes is to expand the uptake of electric vehicles by providing financial assistance in situations where installing charge points is more challenging and therefore more expensive, with this additional expense being the biggest disincentive to adopting EV charging infrastructure.
The OZEV Grant scheme for businesses and workplaces was unaffected by the changes on 31st March 2022. There will however be some exciting additions coming soon. (See below)
The change in direction for the grant funding has created opportunities for some new sectors. Funding is now available for residential landlords, property management companies, commercial landlords, charities, bed and breakfast operators, residential and business car park managers, and many others.
The schemes for these new offerings are currently being finalized and will be introduced gradually during 2022. We will regularly update this page when new information is available. In the meantime, please get in touch with Nemac-EV and we can advise you of any grant funding that is available for your scheme.
